Wadena County
Wadena County was created in 1858 and organized in 1873. Its history reaches from an older trading location on the Crow Wing River to the railway-era county seat established farther west. The county's published account places the newer Wadena location about fifteen miles from the earlier site. That move is a concrete example of transportation reshaping settlement: a river connection mattered in one period, while railway access helped determine where the next civic and commercial center developed.
Use Wadena as a civic reference point, then look at the other county communities and river corridors when planning a wider visit. The old and newer Wadena locations should not be treated as the same site. Reading the county's historical account first makes that distinction easier to follow. Choose a specific town or public river destination for each stop, allowing the railway story and the waterway story to complement one another.
