Le Sueur County
Le Sueur County was established in 1853 and named for French explorer Pierre Charles Le Sueur. Early towns grew along the Minnesota River, but reaching the original county seat became difficult for inland residents. County offices moved to the centrally located community then called Le Sueur Center in 1876. Its name became Le Center in 1930. The move explains why the county seat and the City of Le Sueur are different places, and why transportation figures prominently in the county's history.
Lake Washington Regional Park and Clear Lake Park provide county-operated camping options, while other locations offer trails and public water access. Ney Nature Center, Richter Woods, and Bradshaw Woods appear among the county's places for self-guided hiking. Choose facilities according to the activity you have in mind, then check the individual park's information. Le Center provides the civic starting point, with additional communities and lake destinations spread across the county.
