Nicollet County
Named for Joseph N. Nicollet, the county held its first board meeting at Traverse des Sioux in June 1853. A later vote approved moving the courthouse to St. Peter, and construction of the present courthouse began in 1880 and finished the following year. The building subsequently underwent additions and repairs, including work after the 1998 tornado. These changes trace a civic history that links the county's early river communities with the public institutions serving residents today.
Seven Mile Creek Park lies between North Mankato and St. Peter, with trails, footbridges, and Minnesota River access. Minnemishinona Falls offers a different stop at a scenic overlook on Judson Bottom Road. Check the county's park information and respect posted boundaries at both locations. For town-based errands or exploration, the county directory also identifies Courtland, Nicollet, and Lafayette alongside St. Peter and North Mankato, making community names useful planning tools.
